For businesses

Join the Future of Energy at Amsterdam Zuidoost

The energy transition is reshaping how businesses in Amsterdam Zuidoost access and use electricity. Due to grid congestion, companies applying for new connections are often denied. However, by joining forces, energy can be used more efficiently, creating new growth opportunities for your business. Participating in an energy collective offers significant benefits, including a potential 50% reduction in energy investment and operational costs. By sharing unused contracted energy, businesses can even receive compensation. Beyond the financial advantages, joining this energy collective is a step towards building a sustainable, green industrial park.

Achievements of the LIFE Project

The LIFE project delivers solutions on both the technical and organizational levels for businesses.

At the heart of this initiative is the Digital Twin, developed by TU Delft and EnerTrans. This digital replica of Amsterdam Zuidoost allows for the detection and simulation of bottlenecks in the energy grid under various scenarios, ensuring better grid management and planning for the future. Spectral further enhances this by connecting real-time data from different buildings into one integrated platform. In parallel, Alliander is working on a cutting-edge Grid Management System with standardized data-sharing protocols, ensuring seamless collaboration and grid efficiency.

On the organizational front, several key players have already shown their commitment to this pioneering energy hub. Johan Cruijff Arena, Ziggo Dome, AFAS Live, UvA/HVA, ROC Amsterdam, Stadium Capital Partners, CBRE, and ING have signed on to participate. Together, these stakeholders aim to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding by the end of this year, laying the foundation for a fully functional energy hub in the region.

Alliander is also developing innovative contract models to alleviate grid congestion, ensuring more flexible energy distribution. Additionally, Utrecht University is researching the legal framework necessary to support energy hubs both under Dutch and EU law, further solidifying the project’s foundation.

By participating in this energy hub, your business not only stands to benefit from lower costs and greater reliability but will also be at the forefront of the energy transition. Together, we can create a resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy system for Amsterdam Zuidoost, setting a benchmark for industrial areas worldwide.

“Together with the citizens and companies in the area we generate, store and share local available sustainable energy, so everyone can use the network in the most optimal and affordable way”.
